Senior Camp Counselor

JOB TITLE: Senior Camp Counselor (part-time, seasonal - start date: 5/1/26)

Manager/Supervisor: Education/Camp Supervisor 

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: The Senior Camp Counselor will be responsible for the education of all campers while at the farm. They will also ensure the safety of the camper and follow all guidelines as established by the Education/Camp Supervisor. Specific areas are detailed separately under major duties & responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES/Camp

  • Follow Farm Camp weekly programs as established and train the Jr. Camp Counselors

  • Work all camp sessions to ensure consistency

  • Work with Barn/Animal Supervisor (plus assistant supervisor and team leads), Garden Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor to become familiar with the farm and procedures including proper tool and animal handling during camp

  • Ensure that parents understand what their children did during camp - informal talks with parents during camper drop-off or pick-up

  • Ensure that all children are checked in and out of camp accurately/appropriately

  • Ensure that proper steps are followed if camper injury occurs - fill out incident report, call parents, follow all written procedures

  • Communicate to the Educational/Camp Supervisor any enhancement/improvement ideas that you have for a better camp experience​
  • Follow Cares Agreement for proper behavior around the farm in order to ensure safety

RESPONSIBILITIES/Animal Care

  • Work with the Barn and Animal Care Supervisor to learn everything necessary about all the animals at the farm to include the proper handling of animals used during camp

  • Follow all the procedures as established by the Barn and Animal Care Supervisor

  • Work closely with other employees and volunteers in the barn to ensure all procedures are followed as campers learn about and engage with animals safely and with respectfully

  • Take initiative to participate in barn activities when farm employees are not available to help/work with campers

  • Help engage the campers at the farm with the animals when you are working the barn - education, feeding, grooming, watering and other chores

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/Garden

  • Work with the Garden team to educate campers on the importance of the fruits and vegetables grown on the farm

  • Work with the Garden team to teach campers to plant, water, weed and harvest plants

RESPONSIBILITIES/Farm Care/Maintenance

  • Work with the Maintenance Supervisor to help educate campers about the importance of safe grounds

  • Learn about proper care and maintenance of hay, pond and other specific areas on the farm grounds

 

GENERAL EMPLOYEE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Report shift times online each day, showing the number of hours worked for each task performed

  • Carefully watch the schedule to ensure that you know the hours you are to work - if you can’t be here for your shift for any reason, contact your Supervisor and then the Executive Director

MEETINGS: 

  • Attend all training meetings and Maybury Farm events meetings as requested

  • Attend any and all volunteer meetings, if asked, when related to Farm Camp

 

EVENTS: 

  • Work events as requested - complete all duties/tasks assigned by supervisor or Executive Director

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR JOB: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • College degree or work experience (preferred, not mandatory)

  • Good communication skills

  • Outlook/Google Docs/Excel/Word/Powerpoint skills

  • CPR and First Aid certification

  • Camp Counselor experience (preferred)

  • Good with children

  • Farm animal experience helpful

 

SCHEDULE:

  • 32 hours per week (seasonal, part-time position)

 

This is a part-time, seasonal position. Note: Occasionally the Farm Camp closes due to inclement weather. Missed hours due to weather are not paid. 

 

ATTIRE: Jeans or khaki pants, capris or long shorts with a Maybury Farm team t-shirt

HOURLY RATE: $13.73 - $16 dependent on level of previous experience as a counselor, knowledge of farm animals and agriculture​
