JOB TITLE: Guest Services Associate – General Store (part-time, seasonal)

Manager/Supervisor: General Store Supervisor

Maybury Farm is a non-profit organization that is operated by the Northville Community Foundation. Maybury Farm is an educational, working farm whose mission is to connect children and families to animals and agriculture in ways that cultivate joy and discovery. The Farm is host annually to over 30,000 children and families visiting from all over southeastern Michigan. The Farm property is 85 acres of fields, forest and farmland, and houses over 60 farm animals. The Farms main campus of 15 acres includes two historic barns, paddocks, playground, picnic area, pond and additional outbuildings for equipment. The Farm is open from April-October and hosts many schools and groups for educational farm tours. In addition, the Farm holds festivals and a fall corn maze, and has Santa Visits that are open to the public in December.

 

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: The Guest Services employee works mainly in the General Store and is the “face” of the Farm as the first team member that guests meet when they arrive. The General Store is the hub of the farm. The team member in this position helps to ensure a positive guest experience for everyone who visits the Farm.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Greeting and interacting with guests

  • Answering guest’s questions

  • Operating the Clover point-of-sale system

  • Processing admissions

  • Selling merchandise and concessions

  • Assisting with groups who have booked parties or group rentals

  • Maintaining the General Store; merchandising, inventory replenishment, cleaning (inside and out)

  • Supervising volunteers who assist in the General Store during events

  • Opening and closing main bathrooms

  • Cleaning and restocking of the vault toilet

  • General landscaping around the front of the General Store; watering flower pots, pulling weeds, sweeping porch

  • Managing any guest issues that arise and provide positive resolution

  • Completing detailed incident reports when necessary

  • Be available to work all festivals/events

  • Attend team meetings

  • Maintain accurate time cards with appropriate coding

  • Provide adequate notice for any shifts being missed due to illness and/or requested time off

  • All other duties as assigned

GENERAL EMPLOYEE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Report shift times online each day, showing the number of hours worked for each task performed

  • Carefully watch the schedule to ensure that you know the hours you are to work - if you can’t be here for your shift for any reason, contact your Supervisor and then the Executive Director

JOB EXPECTATIONS:

The Guest Services team member is expected to have a consistent, friendly demeanor creating a welcoming and hospitable atmosphere when guests arrive at the Farm. The ability to engage with guests, answer questions, and resolve guest issues in a positive manner are all extremely important to this position. The ideal Guest Services team member is energetic and enthusiastic about their work and enjoys the diversity of tasks, the physical activity, and the many interactions with children and families. An ability to take initiative and see tasks that need to be done or that can improve the quality of the Farm is helpful. Reliability and punctuality are a must as this position is shared by other team members and we are open to the public so attendance at our assigned shifts is crucial. Being able to accept direction and being flexible with changes are necessary traits for this role. This role handles all of the money that flows through the Farm on a daily basis so honesty and integrity are of the utmost importance. The Guest Services team member will be an advocate for the Farm and will take opportunities as they arise to share with guests the mission of the Farm, information about upcoming events and tours. 

 

ANNUAL SCHEDULE:

January-February: Closed

March: Open Saturdays and Sundays, 12-5pm, for Making Maple Syrup Tours (some weekdays as well, pending private tour bookings)

April-October: Open for the season, Tuesday-Sunday 10am-5pm; Open extended hours for Corn Maze beginning mid-September through to end of October: Friday 5-9pm, Saturday 10-9pm, Sunday 10-7pm (barn open til 7pm)

November: Closed

December: Open first two weekends for Santa Visits in the barn, 12-5pm

This is a part-time, seasonal position. The number of hours each employee is scheduled for will change based on the season/events at the Farm. Note: Occasionally the Farm closes due to inclement weather. Missed hours due to weather are not paid. 

 

MEETINGS: 

  • Attend all staff meetings and Maybury Farm events meetings as requested

 

EVENTS: 

  • Work events as requested - complete all duties/tasks assigned by supervisor or Executive Director

 

SCHEDULE:

  • 20-25 hours per week (part-time position, seasonal)

  • Flexible scheduling available, details will be provided during the interview

ATTIRE: Jeans or khaki pants, capris or long shorts with a Maybury Farm team t-shirt

HOURLY RATE: $11 - $13 dependent on level of experience
